What is the difference between this and the step feeder? Torso (talk) 08:10, 20 July 2015 (UTC)

Nothing. Just sloppiness on my part. This page should be changed to a redirect. ALITTLESlow: t/c 13:16, 20 July 2015 (UTC)
I thought the difference was not in the content, but in the structure. The step feeder is just an article, and has a table for those modules that use that mechanism that needs to be maintained as more modules are added to the wiki. This page is a category, and can automatically collect links to modules with a given mechanism, simply by putting the module article into the Stair lift category. Two issues with this approach: 1) We have to deal with Category:page name for everything, which is a bit ugly, and 2) We may need some other way to group lifting mechanisms - this page doesn't appear on Category:Lift mechanism - can we not nest categories? You're right about the structure being different. If I had been thinking straight, I would have changed (or perhaps transcluded) step feeder into a category page and not created this one. So step feeder should be changed to a category page if we're going to move to this structure. Agree with issue 1) and don't have a better idea. Semantically, I think it's the right approach, though. 2) It is, and does appear as, a sub-category of Lift mechanism. You probably are looking at a cached version. Try refreshing in your browser, or adding "?purge=true" (or "&purge=true") to your URL for the page. Unfortunately, Brickimedia uses what has been called "aggressive" caching, and at multiple levels, causing a lot of refresh issues. ALITTLESlow: t/c 15:49, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
Ah, there it is. I had been looking in the list under S or even C. It's possible that I also had some caching issue as well - let's go with that actually, so I come across as less of a fool!
How about this as a potential solution?: Each lift mechanism remains as an article, which is where you describe how it works etc. In the Examples section, we just transclude the category page, which now has minimal text aside from the list of modules. Would that work? Even better if we could amend the Category template so that instead of "Pages in the category <category>" it says "Examples of <category>". We could take this approach with the lift mechanism category page as well - turn it into an article and transclude the list. Captainowie (talk) 03:18, 22 July 2015 (UTC)
In fact, I'm going to be bold and just do it to see how it looks. Captainowie (talk) 03:28, 22 July 2015 (UTC)
Oh, it turns out that you only get the text, not the list, when you transclude a category page. There are some extensions around that let you do this. See this Stackoverflow question. Captainowie (talk) 03:48, 22 July 2015 (UTC)
Turns out that we already have Semantic MediaWiki installed. This approach has the advantage of not needing to mess with the existing category page. Captainowie (talk) 03:54, 22 July 2015 (UTC)
