A bind is a (hopefully temporary!) problem in a mechanism where some element that normally moves is unable to do so, usually because of something blocking the normal movement.
As a verb, the word refers to the mechanism ceasing movement due to something blocking it. Binds are typically caused by stray balls getting into the mechanism, but could also occur when some part of the mechanism itself works loose and moves out of alignment.
Examples of Use
As he was leaning over the module to retrieve a spilled ball, Joe's shirt got caught between two gears and caused the mechanism to bind.
